The enormous picture detail captured by high definition video is extremely unforgiving of anything but precise focus. Helping camera operators to achieve exact focus each and every time at telephoto distances is the job of Canon’s revolutionary new DIGISUPER 100AF and DIGISUPER 86AF long-field lenses. Both use the Secondary Imaging Phase Difference Method (see chart on the features page) of auto-focus technology, which is significantly more advanced than that used in any other high-definition broadcast zoom lens.

Based on the most widely used lenses in HD sports and entertainment production worldwide, the high-definition auto-focus DIGISUPER 100AF and DIGISUPER 86AF are designed to assist camera operators to instantly achieve exact focus at all times, which is absolutely critical in all applications of HDTV production. The auto-focus features of these lenses are not intended to do the camera operator’s job for him/her, but to provide a high-tech tool to assist the camera operator in achieving exact focus each and every time, especially in challenging situations.

The DIGISUPER 100AF and DIGISUPER 86AF provide an adjustable window in the viewfinder that enables camera operators to target the object they wish to auto-focus on. The DIGISUPER 100AF and DIGISUPER 86AF feature three optional auto-focus modes: Part-Time, which auto-focuses as long as a button is depressed for quick focus confirmation or instant on-demand follow-focus; Full-Time, for situations such as shooting racing cars, where objects are speeding toward the camera position at high speed, or for situations where full-servo robotic operation is needed; and Off, for normal, unassisted lens focus operation.
