QVC SELECTS CANON HD STUDIO AND HD PORTABLE
LENSES
FOR COMPREHENSIVE UPGRADE OF ITS BROADCAST COMPLEX
More than 60 Canon HD Lenses Were Chosen,
Including 22 DIGISUPER XJ60x9B,
12 DIGISUPER XJ22x7.3BIE-D Studio and Portable Lenses
LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y., June 26, 2007 – More than
60 Canon HD studio and portable lenses were selected by QVC®,
one of the largest multimedia retailers in the world, located
in West Chester, Pa. when QVC chose to take its philosophy of
quality, value, and convenience one step further with the upgrade
of its Studio Park facility, the company’s worldwide headquarters.
“At QVC, our connection with the customer
begins with the lens, so our mandate was that our new glass would
have to provide superb imagery,” said Angie Simmons, senior
vice president, broadcast and TV sales for QVC. “When we
present products to our viewers, our goal is to ensure that it’s
done with unsurpassed performance. Since Canon lenses consistently
demonstrate true color representation, the decision for us to
select Canon was an easy one.”
The 165,000-square-foot broadcast center includes
the permanent QVC Home, stages for jewelry and fashion, and a
flexible set environment for special-event programming. The facility
also includes four green rooms, three control rooms, seven post-production
suites, and a 135-seat studio theater, as well as a product preparation
area, sets and props, and a mill shop for on-site set fabrication.
Renowned for the technological excellence of its
lenses, Canon is famous for its impressive knowledge base and
valuable guidance. These key advantages turned out to be essential
as QVC worked closely with Canon to manage the challenging task
of transitioning six studios, even as QVC maintained its 24/7,
364-days-a-year on-air broadcast schedule. As a result, the addition
of more than 60 Canon HD lenses (including twenty-two DIGISUPER
XJ60x9B TELE lenses, twelve DIGISUPER XJ22x7.3BIE-D Compact Studio
lenses, and fourteen HJ11ex4.7B, six HJ22ex7.6B, and fourteen
HJ17ex7.6B portable lenses) was part of a seamless transition
that enhanced QVC’s broadcast capabilities.
According to Simmons, with the addition of the Canon
gear, QVC is creating a solid foundation to continue delivering
high-quality programming now and in the future to meet consumer
demand. “While we have no immediate plans to broadcast in
HD, we want to be ready when our distributors and customers are
ready,” said Simmons.
