CANON
CHOOSES HUTTON COMMUNICATIONS AS DISTRIBUTOR
FOR ITS FREE SPACE OPTIC SOLUTIONS IN U.S. AND LATIN
AMERICA
LAKE SUCCESS, N. Y., March 22, 2004 – Canon
has named Hutton Communications as a distributor for
its Canobeam optical beam transceiver systems in North
America, Central America and South America. One of
the largest distributors of wireless solutions on
the continent, Hutton has a wide-ranging network of
15,000 resellers. Optelligence, the authorized representative
for Canobeam in the Americas, coordinated and closed
the agreement.
A newly formed division of the company, Hutton Broadband,
is specifically tailored to offer complete solution-based
packages for broadband customers. Hutton’s expert
sales force is expected to be a major asset in increasing
market penetration for the new DT-100 Series Canobeam,
which encompasses Canon’s 15 years of free space
optics (FSO) engineering expertise.
“Hutton is a top distributor of wireless technology,
and the rollout of the new Hutton Broadband division
underscored their commitment to the Canobeam market,”
said Gordon Tubbs, assistant director, broadcast and
communications division at Canon U.S.A., Inc, a subsidiary
of Canon Inc. (NYSE: CAJ). “We look forward
to further strengthening the Canobeam line through
their far-reaching distribution channels.”
Canobeam uses Free Space Optic technology to transmit
data between structures where fiber-optic cable is
not available or is too expensive. Canobeam provides
customers with real-world solutions to address connectivity
challenges and bandwidth constraint needs. The DT-100
Series transmits data at speeds up to 1.25Gbps, over
distances from 20m to 2 km, requires no FCC licensing
and sets up in minutes. Canobeam technology provides
a highly secure and reliable link, which has been
proven as a viable solution at college and corporate
campuses, government and military facilities and other
applications where telecom bandwidth is insufficient,
fiber is cost prohibitive or logistically impossible,
or a redundant/disaster recovery system is essential.
“We are extremely proud to be a distributor
for Canobeam,” said Jeff Hall, director of business
development for Hutton Communications. “It is
proven FSO technology, and comes with the talented
people and unbeatable name recognition of Canon.”
“We believe that Hutton’s extensive reach
and consultative sales approach will be very effective
in increasing Canobeam’s presence throughout
the Americas,” said Bruce Wootton, chief executive
officer of Optelligence.
